Culture Secretary signals potential intervention in Sky's takeover of ITV media arm
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has announced she is minded to intervene in Sky's proposed acquisition of ITV's media and entertainment division. Nandy expressed concerns that the merger could negatively impact media plurality, free expression, and the variety of news available to UK viewers. The proposed intervention would involve issuing a public interest intervention notice to the Competition and Markets Authority and Ofcom, potentially requiring new legislation to address the impact on streaming and on-demand services. Sky and ITV have been given until 20 October to respond to the government's concerns.
